The significance and history of Sawan 2024:

Indian mythology states that the origins of Sawan can be found during the Samudra Manthan, when asuras and devas banded together to search for the elixir of immortality, or Amrit.

Many things came into being as a result of the ocean churning, including animals, jewelry, the Goddess Lakshmi, and Dhanvantri. However, when Halahal, a lethal poison, appeared, it caused havoc.

It began to destroy everybody who came into contact with it. As a result, Lord Shiva was consulted by Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. They begged Lord Shiva to eat it, since he was able to withstand this strong poison.

His body went blue as soon as he ingested the toxin. Goddess Parvati entered the Lord’s throat to halt the poison’s spread since she was concerned that it would eventually affect his entire body. As a result, Lord Shiva gained the name Neelkanth.

The month of Sawan was when these things happened. As a result, Mondays are dedicated to worshiping Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati for the entire month. Sawan month is considered fortunate by Hindus due to the numerous significant events that fall within this month.

Drik Panchang lists a few holidays and fasts to observe: Kamika Ekadashi, Mangala Gauri Vrats, Hariyali Teej, Raksha Bandhan, Narali Purnima, and Kalki Jayanti. Some Shiva devotees travel to sacred locations on the Kanwar Yatra and present Lord Shiva with Gangajal.

Sawan 2024 puja vidhi and samagri:

During Sawan Purnima, devotees should worship Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati, Chandra Dev, Shri Hari Vishnu and Maa Laxmi. One can also perform Satyanarayan Puja at their homes. On this day, wake up early, take a bath and collect puja materials like Belpatra, incense, lamp, pure water, flowers, sweets, fruits, and more.

Then, worship Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati and offer them Belpatra, flowers, and fruits. Additionally, light incense sticks and diya. After this, worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu, offering flowers, cowrie shells, and yellow fruits. On Sawan Purnima, after moonrise at night, worship Chandra Dev by offering Arghya and chanting mantras.
