On Monday, terrorists attacked an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, resulting in an exchange of fire after starting fire on an army convoy near Machedi, Billawar. Preliminary reports revealed the involvement of armed militants. The soldiers replied, and an encounter in the area began. Additional forces have been mobilised to deal with the issue.
The incident took place a day after security forces had successfully eliminated six terrorists in separate encounters in Kulgam. According to officials, two terrorists were killed in Modergam and four others in Chinnigam during Sunday’s operations. Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police DGP RR Swain termed the killing of “such a large number” of terrorists as a marvelous achievement by the security forces, adding the success has been a testimony to the strengthening of security measures and community involvement in giving intelligence.
Brigadier Prithviraj Chauhan, Commander of 1 sec RR said, “It is because of these operations that the backbone of groups like Hizbul-Mujahideen has been broken in South Kashmir.” The Indian Army also paid tributes to Lance Naik Pardeep Kumar and Sepoy Pravin Janjal Prabhakar, who lost their lives in the anti-terror operations in Kulgam on July 6, 2024.
The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has recently seen increased activities of terrorists, and the security forces are involved in effective operations to restore peace and security. Last month, three terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Gandoh, Bhaderwah sector of Doda district.
