John Cena Announces Retirement

WWE legend John Cena has announced his retirement from in-ring competition, sharing the news through a video posted on WWE’s social media accounts. Cena revealed that he will bid farewell to WWE in 2025, with WrestleMania 2025 being his final WrestleMania appearance.

John Cena’s illustrious WWE career began in 2001 when he debuted as The Prototype in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE’s developmental division. Over the years, he became a mainstay alongside stars like Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Randy Orton. Cena made his first official WWE TV appearance on June 27 in response to Kurt Angle’s open challenge.

Throughout his career, Cena has headlined WrestleMania five times. His last WrestleMania victory was in 2017 when he and Nikki Bella defeated The Miz and Maryse in a mixed-gender tag match. However, his recent WrestleMania matches haven’t been as successful, including losses to Bray Wyatt, Austin Theory, and a return to support Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

One of Cena’s defining moments was winning his first WWE championship at WrestleMania 21 after capturing the US Championship at WrestleMania 20. He dominated WWE as its face for fifteen years, defeating heavyweight legends like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Edge.

Looking ahead, Cena plans to continue his journey beyond wrestling. He announced his involvement in Monday Night Raw’s move to Netflix in January 2025, calling it a historic opportunity. Cena emphasized that his farewell from WWE marks a new beginning rather than an end.
