Taapsee Pannu Unapologetic About Career Choices

During a recent Expresso session in Hyderabad, Taapsee Pannu opened up about her reputation for being outspoken and the challenges that come with it. Known for her bold film choices and straightforward demeanor, Taapsee reflected on her career, saying, “I have worked best when I have ruffled feathers. My whole career is about ruffling feathers of all sorts.”

Discussing her film “Mulk” from 2018, which tackled sensitive topics of terrorism and religion, Taapsee emphasized her commitment to choosing roles that challenge norms.

Addressing the consequences of her outspokenness, Taapsee shared, “There are no free lunches. I don’t live by ‘Log kya kahenge? (what will people say?)’. Because I have a family who lives like that, I don’t like that way of living. So, I like to have a life of my own. I want to be sure how I will answer myself. I want to be sure of what I say about myself. That is how I operate with the films I do or what I say. I shouldn’t be embarrassed by what I have done and said and not be able to face myself. There is a price to pay for it.”

Taapsee also addressed criticisms from within the film industry, acknowledging, “People call you difficult, they find you extreme. Though I don’t think I am extreme. I have always operated on ‘hate the sin, not the sinner’ and have never been bitter and I can proudly say that. I have never targeted people but have always pointed out the problem and stood against what is wrong. These days people take sides too quickly without analysing.”

Despite facing backlash and being “cancelled” multiple times, Taapsee remains resilient. “I have been cancelled so many times. Now, I am used to being cancelled. It has stopped affecting me. I am still proud of what I have said – good, bad, ugly – because I know that I didn’t target anyone. That makes me sleep well. I am okay to pay the price for the person I am,” she affirmed.

After her successful collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s “Dunki”, Taapsee looks forward to her upcoming projects. She will be seen in “Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba” alongside Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal, a sequel to her 2021 film “Haseen Dilruba”. Additionally, she is set to star in “Khel Khel Mein” alongside Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, and Fardeen Khan.

Taapsee Pannu continues to carve her niche in Bollywood with her bold choices and unapologetic attitude, challenging stereotypes and advocating for authenticity in her work and words.
