First case registered under the new law in Delhi, know the FIR format from now on

New laws have come into effect across the country starting from July 1st 2024. The first case under these new laws has been registered in the Kamla Market area of Delhi. In this case, a police sub-inspector filed a complaint against the accused.

Sub-Inspector Kartik Meena lodged the complaint. According to the FIR, while patrolling near the deluxe toilet by the footbridge at New Delhi Railway Station, SI Meena saw a man selling water, bidis, and cigarettes from a cart on the public road, causing difficulty for passersby. When the SI asked the vendor to move his cart, the vendor explained his situation and left. Following this, the Sub-Inspector filed a case against the street vendor at the police station.

From now on, FIRs will be written differently. They will be registered under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with the specific section. Aajtak has a copy of the first FIR registered in Delhi under the new law. FIRs will now be registered under section 173 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNS), instead of section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
