In a key move in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 exam, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that the results of 1563 students who were granted grace marks due to time constraints during the exam will be withheld.
Following the investigation into the alleged paper leak and unfair examination practices, the SC has stated that affected candidates, as many as 1563, will have the opportunity for a re-examination.
These candidates will receive their actual scores without compensatory marks. Additionally, those who opt not to participate in the re-examination will have their results declared based on their actual marks.
“For those who appear for re-test, the May 5 scores will be discarded,” the court stated.
Besides this, Hiten Singh Kashyap and Palak Mittal, two NEET-UG 2024 candidates, have petitioned the Supreme Court, challenging the fairness of the examination process. They claimed widespread question paper leaks and misappropriation occurred before and during the exam.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court stated that the counselling of the aspirants would continue.
NEET-UG 2024 faced allegations of a paper leak and exam centre manipulations. It was reported that students from states like Odisha, Karnataka, and Jharkhand selected a particular exam centre in Godhra, Gujarat, raising suspicions about the integrity of the exam administration.
The Ministry of Education has constituted a four-member panel headed by a former Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) chairperson to review the grace marks awarded to more than 1,563 candidates in the medical entrance exam National Eligibility Entrance Test-undergraduate (NEET-UG). This was informed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced earlier last week.
