The Indian cricket team secured a seven-wicket victory in the second Test against South Africa, leveling the series 1-1 and propelling them to the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. Led by Rohit Sharma, India now holds 54.16 percentage points, while the Proteas dropped to the second position with 50 percentage points. Consequently, Pakistan slipped to the sixth spot with 45.83 percentage points.
The remarkable comeback for India involved standout performances by pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, who jointly claimed 15 wickets in the match. Bumrah’s figures of 6 for 61 in the second innings contributed significantly to India’s dominance.
The win marked the completion of a memorable turnaround for India after losing the first Test in Centurion by an innings and 32 runs. The second Test in Cape Town concluded inside five sessions, making it the shortest Test match ever in terms of overs bowled.
With the series squared, India’s focus now shifts to a five-match Test series against England, scheduled to begin on January 25.
