In a disturbing incident in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been lodged after Arti Gupta, the wife of a naib tehsildar, claimed that her husband, Ashish Kumar Gupta, was forcibly converted to Islam and made to marry a Muslim woman named Rukhsaar. Ashish Kumar Gupta, posted in Maudaha tehsil, has been missing for almost four months, prompting his wife to approach the police.
Arti Gupta filed a complaint at City Kotwali Police Station, alleging that her husband was forcefully converted and married to Rukhsaar by five individuals, including the naib tehsildar, and six unidentified persons. Two of the accused, including a local mosque’s maulvi in Maudaha, have been detained.
According to Arti Gupta’s statement to the police, her husband was involved in an affair with Rukhsaar. She claimed that Rukhsaar’s father, Munna, along with the maulvi and several others, forcibly converted Ashish Gupta on December 24 and conducted the marriage.
The case has been registered under section 494 (marrying again during the lifetime of a husband or wife) of the Indian Penal Code and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. The accused maulvi and Munna are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
Locals reported that Ashish Gupta was seen offering namaz in a mosque in Maudaha. The caretaker of the mosque confirmed this information but added that when Ashish revealed his identity as the naib tehsildar of Maudaha and a resident of Kanpur, the authorities were notified.
Maudaha Tehsildar Balram Gupta, however, mentioned that reports of Ashish Gupta offering namaz were yet to be verified. The investigation is ongoing, with statements from local residents recorded as part of the process. The allegations of forced conversion and marriage have raised concerns, and authorities are working to uncover the facts surrounding the case.
