Delhi Minister Gopal Rai: 50% Reduction in Air Pollution Due to Rainfall

The national capital’s citizens, who have been breathing in toxic air for the past few weeks, may breathe a sigh of relief as Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced on Saturday that the city’s pollution level has dropped by half, or 50%, thanks to yesterday’s rainfall that dispersed pollutants.

Rai stated, “The rainfall on Saturday dispersed pollutants from the city air,” in an interview with ANI on Saturday. The wind also increased, clearing the air in Delhi of any harmful substances. With the showers, the city’s pollution level dropped by 50%, from 450 to 225 on the Air Quality Index. But it’s too soon to tell how long the showers will affect the quality of the air in the city.”

At 2.04 pm, the national capital’s overall AQI was reported at 227, which represents a significant improvement over the previous few days.

The top AAP leader added that the temperature has been dropping over the past 10 days and that the notable drop in pollution has aided in the arrival of winter in the nation’s capital.

In addition, he said, the government was attempting to lessen cracker popping while simultaneously addressing the problems of dust, stubble burning, biomass burning, and vehicle emissions.

“The pollutants were suspended at the lower surface of the atmosphere, with the process of dispersal being impeded and hampered,” said the minister.

According to statistics supplied by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality improved to ‘Poor’ on Saturday after previously hovering around the ‘Very Poor’ level.

On Saturday morning, at 7 am, the Anand Vihar AQI was reported at 295, while the AQI levels at RK Puram, Punjabi Bagh, and ITO were recorded at 230, 244, and 263.

Despite recent rains offering a slight respite, Delhi’s air quality continues to be a matter of concern. A local resident and morning walker at Kartavya Path told ANI, “After the rains, the pollution has reduced slightly as the air quality remains as hazardous as it was. We are still finding it difficult to breathe.”
