Internet Suspended in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Amid Maratha Reservation Protest

Due to the Maratha reservation protest, internet services have been blocked in the rural and urban parts of Maharastra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district as of Thursday, November 2. Due to the deteriorating state of law and order brought on by the Maratha reservation protests, the authorities on Thursday suspended Internet services in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district.

In the midst of the ongoing Maratha quota protest, an official announced on Wednesday that the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district has decided to suspend internet services, including broadband and mobile.

According to the official on Wednesday, internet services via dongles, broadband, wireline, and fibre internet would be unavailable from 6 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 p.m. on Friday.

The official stated that the talukas of Gangapur, Vaijapur, Khultabad, Phulambri, Sillod, Kannad, Paithan, Soegaon, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar were all affected by the order to halt internet access, with the exception of the city of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

To preserve law and order, the services have been suspended in both rural and urban regions.

The district of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar decided to halt internet services in response to rioting and arson occurrences. On Wednesday, there were reports of protests and arson in various parts of Maharashtra.

Maratha farmers, lawyers, and members of Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM) staged a protest in Latur city, arguing that Marathas should be granted reservations under the OBC category because, according to documents from the Nizam era and the pre-Independence period, they are Kunbis.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave an assurance following an all-party meeting that everyone agreed to give Marathas reservations, even as the state saw a surge in the Maratha reservation movement.

“At the all-party meeting, everyone agreed that the Maratha community should get reservation. It was decided the reservation should be within the framework of the law and without doing injustice to other communities,” Eknath Shinde said.
