Today at IIT Roorkee, Mrs. Gunjan Dave, Member (Technology), Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, opened a two-day session on “5G Use Case Labs: Awareness and Pre-Commissioning Readiness.”
It was hosted by the National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation, and Training (NTIPRIT), DoT, Ghaziabad. It intended to raise awareness of 5G technology use cases and the 5G Use Case Lab, which was established at IIT Roorkee with DoT financing. During the India Mobile Congress in October, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of 100 5G labs around the country.
Mrs Gunjan Dave asked academic institutions to make full use of the 5G Use Case Lab to explore new use cases so that the advantages of 5G technology reach all segment of society and contribute to India’s development. Shri Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, expressed appreciation for this effort and stated that his institute is looking forward to fully using the laboratory.
During the workshop, the industry presented various potential 5G use cases for enterprises, education, agriculture, health, and e-commerce activities, among other things, and deliberations were held among faculty members from IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and other engineering colleges, industry representatives, researchers, students, and DoT officers.
Shri Deepak Kumar, Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand; Shri Deb Kumar Chakraborty, Director General NTIPRIT; and Mrs Shubha Bhambhani, Additional Director General UP (West) LSA DoT also spoke at the opening session. The program attracted around 130 participants from over 30 regional universities.
